American Street Car Series has recently been developed due to the loyal people who support our sport and continue to drive and participate in our events. Bill Howell developed an idea that stemmed from his love for cars, his need for speed, and his ability to share the passion with other like-minded individuals. In 2005, Bill decided that they wanted to get a bunch of pro-touring guys together. Knowing Pigeon Forge would be a great spot, they decided to plan something the same weekend as the annual Grand Rod Run, which fell the second weekend after Labor Day. That first year, eleven cars showed up. RTTH originally included cruising through the mountains and raising hell at a local drag strip. Word got out and the event’s demand and interest grew and grew.
In March of 2010, Bill and his friend, Yancy Johns, created Run to the Coast in Irvine, CA. In June of 2011, Bill and his friend, Brian Finch, created Run to Music City in Nashville, TN. In April of 2011, Bill decided to do an event in New Jersey, which is now known as Run to the Shore. All of the events continued to grow, and once these three friends had four different series running in one year, they decided to join forces and create what is now known as ASCS. Now, the main goal is to hold multiple successful events in different parts of the country, all being part of the pro-touring movement. All three gentlemen excel in different areas of running a company, and they figured that ASCS would be a good fit for everyone.
Family is also important to Bill, Yancy, and Brian, and having a strong family foundation only allows them to succeed even more in ASCS. Yancy brings both of his sons, Aaron and Preston, to the events, in hopes of them growing up to love the sport. Yancy is currently working on a ‘71 Chevelle Stationwagon, so that his wife, Charise can play at ASCS’s upcoming events. Brian’s wife, Nicole, and his daughter, Bree, have been avid participants at each event. Nicole continuously supports Brian’s passion and has been on many cross-country trips in the Camaro. Bill’s wife, Melinda, has helped tremendously over the years by handling all of the behind-the-scenes issues. Both Melinda and Charise have sold T-shirts and registered participants. Jess, Bill’s daughter, has recently joined the team, and she will now be the director of ASCS events.
RTTH has now developed into a larger event that reaches across the United States: ASCS. This year, we plan to have events in Texas, New Jersey, California, South Carolina, and the original one in Tennessee; we are also currently looking into adding a few more venues to the 2012 schedule.
Please keep in mind that all ASCS events will book up quickly. The locations only have allotted space for a certain number of cars, and we want to see you there! Please sign up as soon as the individual events are announced, to ensure your spot in the event!
“This site has been set up for the sole purpose of covering pro-touring events and other car events ASCS puts on, and also those that we find to be interesting and fun. Don’t expect to see lawn chairs or car wax here! We look for the heroes of our hobby to be covered regularly. Every year, I attend, produce, and support most of the events around the country; I plan to use this website as an outlet to expose them. If you are looking for a forum, go to www.pro-touring.com. Here, you can meet like-minded gearheads. You will see me there often, and I really appreciate Larry Callahan for providing us with such a quality site, so that we can better share our passion. This site is not meant to take away from Larry’s site; it enables me to post lots of pictures and update information about the ASCS, without using up his bandwidth. Check in often- as we are constantly adding new information- and be sure to tell your gearhead friends about us!!” -Bill Howell
